Thanks for the info. So where on the engine can we find casting numbers or block numbers to identify it?

TX....I don't remember and don't have access to SI anymore....Seems like it was a decal on the driver's V/C buried under some stuff, but not sure. Bet some of the Duramax techs on this site can tell you right off the bat.

Oh wait swatkins know just about everything!

JUST teasing Steve!

Hey Numbnuts...

To find the engine number is really easy... In fact it is one of the best things GM ever came up with...

1. Elevate truck to comfortable position or use a creeper to place your eyes at a comfortable level.

2. Have helper place vehicle in park with wheels chocked and emergency brake system set.

3. Inform helper of the following procedure: With foot on brake start engine and increase RPM to 3000 for 50 seconds.

4. Raise vehicle on lift to predetermined position with helper inside the cab or position yourself on the creeper at the passenger side just behind the rear wheel.

5. While observing the 3 inch pipe, found in that location, signal helper to start engine and increase to 3000 rpm.

6. Carefully observe a location 6 inches inside the pipe. left side of the pipe, when the truck is started.. After a 30 seconds the engine serial number will start to glow and become bright orange.

And they say Ford has a Better Idea!

Hey Chris! I joined to check out your progress! Congrats on the win! And fantastic job on the documentation of the OH issue!

Is there a public record of the suit anywhere? I have some LLY owners on my boating site that are curious about purchasing an LLY DMax.

TxChristopher, have you tried your overheating "test" on Dodges or Fords? If they overheat or don`t it would interest me. If they don`t overheat that should tell GM something. Every brand has it`s problems, I`m just glad there`s a fix for the duramax.

IF you are bored, reread this thread, it's funny to read all the pint up anger here about this. Things are so much more calm and relaxed since then. We've joined forces with DP and are free to disscuss everything openly. It's nice being
